Dr. Harney received her degree in Comparative Literature from The University of Texas at Austin in 1997 and holds the rank of professor at Texas State. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in business Spanish and Latin American and Peninsular literature for the department of Modern Languages and the Honors College. She has developed and currently supervises an internship program for Spanish majors/minors, and has established and directed summer study abroad programs in Guanajuato and Monterrey, Mexico (1998-2009). She is currently the faculty advisor for a semester program in Buenos Aires, Argentina and a semester exchange program in ViƱa del Mar, Chile. Dr. Harney maintains an active scholarly agenda, with numerous publications primarily focused on Latin American Literature and popular Spanish theater. She received Texas State's Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2004 and was named International Studies Professor of the year in 2009. In 2013, she received the Faculty Award for Outstanding Achievement in International Education. For the College of Liberal Arts, Dr. Harney coordinates the work of the Liberal Arts Council and oversees strategic planning, curriculum development, program and learning outcomes assessment, and international initiatives for the College. She chairs the Liberal Arts Study Abroad Council and also serves on the President's Student Service Fee Committee and the University's General Education Council.
